Traveling Hebrew School Home

Welcome to the Hebrew School that travels to you!

IJDC TRAVELING Hebrew School

Welcome to the IJDC Traveling Hebrew School, an exciting and innovative educational program. Our Hebrew School has a particular focus on educating children through art, song and interactive learning, enabling children to experience the ideas and ideals which are taught in a relevant manner. As a trend setter in creative Jewish education we have exciting new programs, a dynamic staff and interested students. Our student body is made up of children from various backgrounds and affiliations.

Imagine … a Hebrew School where kids don’t want to miss a day.

Imagine … you can hear the sounds of lively discussion, of singing, laughter and prayer.

Imagine … a child who feels the warmth and spirit of Judaism.

Imagine … the pride of his/her parents.

what is the Traveling Hebrew School

Our Hebrew School is unique in that it is a Traveling Hebrew School. This means that you put together a group of 3-6 Children. The children should be between the ages of 6-11. Then, we set a location, either in your home (an additional adult needs to be present) or a location near you (e.g. Public Library meeting room). We come to you and teach Hebrew School.

Individualized Attention

Every child enjoys individual attention from an instructor who is carefully selected for their abilities to connect with, appropriately assess, and cater to the needs of each student.

At the Indiana Jewish Discovery Center, we believe that every Jewish child deserves a Jewish education. No family will be denied because of inability to pay. Please inquire about our scholarship program.
Our program does not require any membership at a synagogue and all students and their families are welcome to attend programming at the IJDC.

CURRICULUM

Hebrew – Beginning with letter recognition, this program leads students through phonetic decoding, reading comprehension & writing. Age appropriate textbooks & workbooks will be completed throughout the year. We also implement the successful and effective ‘Aleph Champ’ Program for hebrew reading and writing.

Basic Hebrew Prayers (T’fillah) – Children will become familiar with the Modeh Ani, Sh’mah and a few other prayers and blessings.

Holidays – Each year we examine the holiday from a different perspective, making each year’s learning a new & exciting holiday adventure. Hands-on lessons on each Jewish holiday will fill the calendar as we proceed from Rosh Hashanah and the High Holidays through the holiday of Shavuot. The students will have a deeper understanding of each holiday, its traditions & customs. We will also host holiday celebrations for students & their families.

Jewish Values & Ethics – We cover different aspects of our Jewish values and ethics through a wide range of learning medium and experiences, making the lessons learned relevant and practically incorporated in the child’s life.

Aleph Champ

In due course, students will be introduced to the Aleph Champ Program. The Aleph Champ Program© is on the cutting edge of Hebrew reading today. Modeled after the Karate/Martial Arts motivational system, it works by dividing different reading skills into levels defined by color. Students understand that their teacher is a black aleph champion and their goal is to reach that level. As the children compete and progress, they feel a sense of accomplishment and are rewarded for their efforts as they move along.
